Doomsday

Doomsday is a Finnish demo group started in 1993. I have been a member since 1995.

A demo group makes music and visual "eye candy" on computers. Advanced visual effects, animations - art - rendered in real-time and synced to music, a bit like music videos. We in the "scene" call it demos. Events like Assembly and The Gathering gather thousands of sceners to socialise and compete in demo-related competitions. Scene portals like scene.org and pouet.net tries to reflect what's happening in the scene which traditionally have been mostly underground.

My involvment in Doomsday has been as a coder (programmer), using the nickname "MRI". Other core members are/where Mika Pesonen "Doom" on code, Antti Miettinen "Dice" and Markus Kaikkonen "Damaq" on graphics, Sami Voutilainen "Wode" on graphics/music, Janne Laitinen "Swallow" and Panu Aaltio "Firestorm" on music.

In the beginning of 1999, after Doomsday was officially declared dead, we decided to release our DOS demo-system. Get it from scene.org. A while after that, Damaq made a new demo and the group was resurrected.

Below are our releases. The DOS demos which have no Windows port can be run on a fast PC with DOSBox 0.63.

Janne Laitinen "Swallow"

Although Janne Laitinen "Swallow" is not a demo (!) his work deserves special mention. From an early age Janne had clear vocal gifts. The joke tunes Dinner and Jorma, Minä tunnen Raimon and Savovat että are evidense of that. These tunes has become quite famous in the scene and will probably hount him for the rest of his music career.

As a member of the band Käytänhousuja, Janne has done a remake of the original music for the Vivid Experiment demo. Below are some other Käytänhousuja hit-songs:

- Günther toisaalla
- Tallijuhta
- Elostelijat
- Kun minusta tuli mies
- Adarelle
- Ali Akbar Am Mullah
- Älkää uskoko
- Humalakäyttäytymistä
- Irkkaava mummo
- Jos mikään ei muutu
- Nanna-Emilia
- Tarja
- Tyttö tahtoo munaa
