OH6AG Field Day expedition 2007 / Purmo, Finland

CQ-klubben deltog i år i SRAL/IARU region 2 Field Day contest, CW-delen den 2...3.6 i klassen Multiop/Single TX restricted (B).
The CQ-club participated in the SRAL/IARU region2 Field Day CW conest 2...3 June in Multiop/Single TX restricted (B) class.

Vi inledde Field dayn med seriös planering ett par veckor innan händelsen. Se nedan. Fr.v. OH6NYZ, OH6LW, OH6NVT, OH6MH, OH6FBB, OH6CV, OH6FA. Bakom kameran OH6NT.
We started out with a serious planning meeting a couple of weeks before the Filed Day. Participants from the left: OH6NYZ, OH6LW, OH6NVT, OH6MH, OH6FBB, OH6CV, OH6FA. OH6NT behind  the camera.

Sedan, den 2-3.6 var det dags. Vi fick tacksamt låna OH6NVT:s hustrus sommar-QTH vid Narssjön i Purmo, ca. 40 km från Jakoibstad. Huvudstationen var Andreas' OH6FA:s Kenwood TS-450SAT med en G5RV antenn. Vi deltog som klubb i portable-klass med anropet OH6AG/P. Nedan huvudstationen.
Then, on the 2-3 June it was time. We were grateful to be able to use the summer cottage og OH6NVT:s wife at the small lake "Narssjon" in Purmo, some 40 km. SE of Jakobstad. Our main station was Andreas' OH6FA's Kenwood TS-450SAT and a G5RV antenna. We participated as a portable club station and used the call OH6AG/P .Below the main station.

Vi körde också med OH6FA:s laptop och använde N1MM's Contest Logger - program. Tunern behövdes för 160 m och OH6NT hade byggt en keypatch-box så att vi kunde ansluta både dator, elbug och vanlig pump.
We also used OH6FA's laptop, and N1MM Contest Logger software. The tuner at the left was needed for 160 m, and OH6NT had built a key-patch box so we were able to hook up both computer, keyer and a regular key.

Vår huvudantenn var Haralds, OH6NYZ:s, G5RV multibandsdipol, och vi hade en likadan i reserv som Andreas OH6FA hade med sig. Reservantennen var kopplad till vår reservtransceiver. Our main antenna was Harald's, OH6NYZ's G5RV multiband dipole, and Andreas OH6FA brought a spare one. The spare was hooked up to our spare station. The antennas were supported by trees, and the support wires were launched up the trees by Andreas with an arrowbow. Left picture shows the main antenna. Reservstationen som tillika användes som spot-mottagare, var Thomas' OH6NT:s Kenwood TS440-SAT. Dessutom hade Thomas med sig rn laptop i reserv, färdigt konfiguerad med N1MM's program, ifall något hade gått snett med huvudstationens dator. Nedan funderar expeditionens chef Folke,OH6NVT , tillsammans med Björn, OH6FBB, som var poweransvarig, på om allt är "lagligt"...
The spare station, which also was used as a spotting receiver, was Thomas' OH6NT's Kenwood TS-440SAT. In addition Thomas brought a spare laptop ready configured with the N1MM software, sjould something go wrong with the main station computer. Expeditionens kraftpaket bestod av två st. parallellkopplade 200 Ah blybatterier, totalt 400 Ah. Till detta fanns en rejäl laddare, och för att vara oberoende av nätet fanns en 5 kW Honda-generator att ta till för laddningen. Batterierna behövde laddas en kort stund den andra dagen... Björn, OH6FBB (i den vänstra bilden) var ansvarig för strömförsörjningen, och ordnade den alldeles suveränt via sin arbetsgivare, Oy Wikro Ab. Generatorn placerades en bit bort bakom hemlighuset för att inte störa tävlingskörandet.
The powerpack of the expedition consisted of two parallell coupled lead-acid batteries with 200 Ah capacity, totalling 400 Ah. For charging there was a huge charger and a 5 kW Honda generator. The batteries needed a short period of charging during the second day... Björn, OH6FBB (in the left picture) was in charge of the power supply, and he accompished this task UFB in cooperation with his employer, Oy Wikro Ab. The generator was placed some distance away, behind the convenience building, to avoid disturbing the contesting.

För lokala kontakter och vägledning till platsen riggade Björn också upp sin Yaesu  FT-8900 utanför contest-ladan så att vi kunde köra både repeatern OH6RAG och ha jour på vår lokala FD-kanal, 145.400 MHz. Antennen, en HB9CV stod Krister, OH6MH, för tillsammans med Thomas OH6NT. 2 m backup-antenn var Björns egen magnetantenn.
To be able to work our local repeater OH6RAG and give directions to visitors on our local FD-channel 145.400 MHz, Björn also mounted his Yaesu FT-8900 outside the Contest Barn. The antenna was a HB9CV supplied by Krister OH6MH aided by Thomas OH6NT. Backup antenna for 2 m was Björn's own magnetic mobile whip.

Ok, allt klart... eller nästan! Fruktansvärda störningar någonstans ifrån! Andreas OH6FA och Roy. OH6LW undersöker problemet, och orsaken hittades också; det var den switchade konvertern (12->16 VDC) för laptopen som väsnades. Det löstes genom att byta ut den mot en annan.
Ok, all set... or almost! Terrible QRM from somewhere! Andreas, OH6FA and Roy, OH6LW investigates the problem, and the cause was found; it was the switching 12-> 16 VDC converter för the laptop which caused the noise. The problem was solved by changing it to another one.

I god till tills tävlingen började på lördag kl. 18:00 finsk tid var allt klart, och vi kunde ta igen oss med en grillad korvbit, revnbensspjäll, kaffe och gott tilltugg, som våra förstående XYL:s försett oss med. Riktiga karlar behöver också "laddas"... Fr.v. OH6NYZ Harald, OH6MH Krister, OH6FBB Björn, OH6LW Roy, och stående "expeditionschefen" Folke OH6NVT.
In time well before the contest stated on Saturday at 18:00 local time all was set, and we could relax a while with some barbecued sausages, and ribs, coffee and some good cakes supplied by our understanding XYL:s. Real men needs "charging" too...  From the left OH6NYZ Harald, OH6MH Krister, OH6FBB Björn, OH6LW Roy, and standing "expedition chief " Folke OH6NVT.

Sedan började tävlingen. 24 h körde teamet CW och man bytte operatörer vid behov. Fyra av gossarna klarade av att vara kvar också under natten och köra nästan hela tiden.
Then the contest started. 24 hours the team worked CW and the operators changed as necessary. Four of the boys managed to stay put even during the night and they worked nearly all the time.

Resultatet? Tja, vi hade roligt, fint väder, lärde oss mycket och körde mycket CW. Placering, slutpoäng mm. vet vi inte än, men det kanske syns i Radioamatööri nån gång - eller så inte. :-) Huvudmålet - att ha roligt - uppnåddes! Kom med nästa gång så vet du vad du missat...

Results? Well, we had fun, great weather, we learned a lot and worked a lot of CW. Placement, final score etc. we don't know yet, but it may be revealed in the "Radioamatööri" magazine some time - or not. :-) Our main goal - to have fun - was reached!
